Main Responsibilities:  

The main purpose of the role is to attend all road death and potential road death collisions within their area of responsibility. Applying specialist techniques in investigating all factors relevant to the matter, in order to identify, preserve, interpret, and present evidence, which will assist the enquiry.

To attend, record, and map the scenes of fatal and life threatening road traffic collisions in order to prepare evidential scale plans and other visual representations using a variety of methods and equipment such as surveying and photography. 

To carry out the thorough and meticulous collation, preservation and interpretation of the scene and other evidence. This may include vehicle defects, tachograph and vehicle telematic data in order to accurately report on the circumstances of the collision. 

To provide expert evidence and opinion to the investigation team, the courts and other interested parties ensuring that at all times they remain within their level of competence and expertise, in order to provide a professional and unbiased account of the incident.  

To identify if additional resources and/or specialist external knowledge is required to assist with the forensic examination and/or reconstruction should the level of expertise required exceed their own, in order to inform effective decision making. 

To assist other team members with investigations and peer review findings to ensure that the accuracy, quality and integrity of evidence is maintained. 

To assist in the preparation of scale drawings and plans for major crime enquiries and in special cases at the request of the Senior Investigators. 

To provide support using expertise knowledge and skills where appropriate to Local Policing within Warwickshire Police.  

To assist with any other incident where their skills and / or specialist equipment would be beneficial. 

To support and ensure organisational conformance with the requirements of the Forensic Science Regulator Codes of Practice and Conduct and the International Standards Organisation (ISO) 17020 standards in order to provide a quality service through accreditation

To undertake all other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as may be required.

Experience/Skills required:

Knowledge:

GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) in Mathematics.

BTEC or equivalent advanced qualification in Forensic Collision Investigation.

Knowledge of roads policing and forensic collision investigation, including the APP Investigation of Fatal and Serious Injury Road Collisions

Knowledge of information management and analytical techniques.

Experience:

Sound roads policing experience.

Extensive forensic collision investigation experience.

Proven experience in analysing information, drafting reports and presenting findings either in person or in a variety of other formats.

Proven experience of effective consultation, advising and influencing at various management levels.

Experience of using a forensic case management system.

Key Skills:

Sound investigative skills

Excellent IT skills including WORD, Excel, and at least one forensic case management system and one analytical system.

Ability to communicate and influence at all levels, adapting the style of communication to meet the needs of the audience.

Ability to compose analytical reports across all disciplines of Forensic Services.

Able to work with a methodical and accurate approach, whilst prioritising competing demands.

Ability to work with great accuracy, with good attention to detail.

Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality.

Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to accept and adapt to change.

Ability to build effective working relationships with other forensic discipline leads and stakeholders.

Ability to work with minimal supervision.

On-call

Shift work (not 24/7)

Regular travel throughout Warwickshire Police

Exposure to disturbing/unpleasant images or tasks
